Of interest to participate in the price of the book high school student of Economics and Social Sciences
Participate schoolboy Book Prize in Economics and Science Social is a unique opportunity for teachers of SES and especially for students who become sovereign jury. The goal is simple: to sharpen the eyes of our students face economic and social issues through the pleasure of reading. !
brief history of the Prize Award
schoolboy's book Economics and Social Sciences was born in 2002 at the initiative of a group of high school students Modeste Leroy d'Evreux and their teacher SES, Arnaud Catala .
In 2005, two institutions were in the running: the Lycée Jean Giraudoux Chateauroux, and high school Bourdan Pierre Gueret who took support the piloting of the operation. Spurred by Dominique Castan Hunet high school and Rene Pierre Bourdan Guéret, the price was institutionalized with the creation of a triple partnership: "Socio Links" on french website of Social Sciences, the monthly magazine Alternatives Economiques "and Daily "Issues, Voices" are indeed becoming our official partners. They now offer the following media coverage of the prize, the official selection of books and premises for meetings with the winners.
.
Since the price is driven high school student from the Lycée J. Aubenas Froment, Julien and I Patriarca same. For the year 2009, the growing success is undeniable, as we reach this year 20 schools participating distributed mainly in the Paris region, Brittany, Central, North, French Guiana. ... And Djibouti (the French one is part price since 2007).
Organization and Functioning
Since the 2009 edition, we have simplified the operation of the high school price:
Partners, Links and Socio Economic Alternatives, we offer 16 books published in the current year we choose 10 which then form the Official Selection (instead of 20 years earlier). This is normally given before the autumn holidays. (Running from September 2010)
In each institution participating in the award itself is a reading committee composed of student volunteers who meet regularly to exchange views on the readings, to highlight the interesting books and eliminate those deemed tasteless or inaccessible. Beyond these internal debates, students of different institutions are sharing their opinions about the books through the following blog: http://prixlyceenses2008.blogspot.com.
Another new the price will run on a single school year. In early May, each committee establishes a list of his favorite 3 books. By summing the votes, we can then determine the winner of the schoolboy.
operating budget
It takes about 300 Euros for the acquisition of 10 books in 2 copies. The price schoolboy has none of funding, each participating school must find its own means of funding (budget CDI, educational budget, budget price school voted in CA ...) Note that several publishers (Knopf, Discovery ... ) send free copies to participating schools.
Where possible, it is also wise to include a trip to the awards ceremony at the ENS Lyon.
Interest (most importantly)
From experience, the main attraction of the prize is to allow students to feel valued: first, to have managed to read books they would absolutely never tried to read, then have the opportunity to express and defend his opinions on books and finally the satisfaction of having an opinion critical to the award of high school that is able to judge rather than being judged. Accuracy
crucial, the price is not restricted to "first class". Instead, the greatest satisfaction comes often underperforming students a strictly academic point of view for which the price appears to be a developer.
For us it is indeed an easy way out "state routine" of our everyday teaching and interact with students outside the "constraints school".
To participate in the next edition (2010 prices) which will start at the beginning of September 2009, he simply give us the name and exact address of the institution, its academy and the emails or focal points for the facility.
