Short History of Price
schoolboy Book Prize for Economics and Social Sciences was born in 2002 at the initiative of a group of high school students Modeste Leroy d'Evreux and their teacher SES, Arnaud Catala.
In 2005, two institutions were in the running: the Lycée Jean Giraudoux Chateauroux, and high school Bourdan Pierre Gueret who took over the steering operation. Spurred by Dominique Castan Hunet high school and Rene Pierre Bourdan Guéret, the price was institutionalized with the creation of a triple partnership: "Socio Links " the French site Social Sciences, the monthly magazine Alternatives Economiques "and the daily Issues, Voices " indeed become our official partners. They now offer the following media coverage of the prize, the official selection of books and office space for meetings with winners.
Since the price is driven high school student from the Lycée J. Aubenas Froment, Julien Patriarca and myself. Since its inception, the increasing popularity continues unabated as we have achieved in 2010 a record number of 50 participating schools in 2010. Participating schools are spread throughout France and even abroad with the participation for the 2011 edition of French schools in Djibouti, Copenhagen and New Delhi.
Organization and Functioning
Since publishing 2009, we have simplified the operation of the high school price:
Partners, Links and Socio Economic Alternatives, we offer 10 books published in the current year which is the official selection (instead of 20 years earlier). This one is normally available in mid September.
In each institution participating in the award itself is a reading committee composed of student volunteers who meet regularly to exchange views on the readings, to highlight the interesting books and eliminate those deemed tasteless or inaccessible. Beyond these internal debates, students of different institutions are sharing their opinions about the books through the following blog: http://prixlyceenses.blogspot.com .
Another new prices will last one school year. In early May, each committee to draw up a list of his 3 favorite books. By summing the votes, we can then determine the winner of the schoolboy.
operating budget
It takes about 300 Euros for the acquisition of 10 books in 2 copies. The price schoolboy has none of funding, each participating school must find its own means of funding (budget CDI, educational budget, budget price school voted in CA ...)
Where possible, it is also wise to include a trip to the awards ceremony at the ENS Lyon or Paris by years.
Interest (most importantly)
From experience, the main attraction of the award is to enable students to feel valued : first, to have managed to read books they would never, ever tried to read, then have the opportunity to express and defend his opinions on books and finally the satisfaction of having an opinion critical to the allocation Price schoolboy ie to judge rather than being judged.

For us it is indeed a simple way out of "state routine" of our everyday teaching and interact with students outside the "constraints school".
